The film starts as the screen is black with the credits. We can hear someone diaing a number and then someone making a phone call. There is faint music in the background which makes the opening almost spinechilling. The first shot used is a view of a house. We do not know anything about whos house this is, or why we are seeing it. The camera pans across using the 180 degree rule and moves us on to see a fairground. We see people at the fair but cannot hear them as there is a phone call playing over the top. This links in with the 'calls' in the title. Everything in the shot, including people are moving in slow motion. This creates a good effect as makes the film more dramatic and focas' more attention on the phone call in the background. Throughout this there is creepy quiet music playing. We see a view of the area through someone elses eyes which we assume is the 'stranger'. Through the persons eyes we can see that this person is watching people. We hear another phone ringing in the background but there is no answer. Along with the creepy music we hear chimes and creaking. These are used to create tension and fear. Faint screams at the fair can be heard although no talking and laughing can. More credits appear on the screen and the screams get louder and louder. Eventually the screams are very loud and everything in the shot returns to normal pace.
