The Godfather
The story of 'The Godfather' opens in the study of Don Vito Corleone, the leading patriarch of a New York Mafia family. The film starts at daughter Connie's wedding. His youngest son, Michael, turns up back from the war with new american girlfriend Kay. All of Michael's family is involved with the Mafia, but Michael just wants to live a normal life. A drug dealer is looking for Mafia Families to offer him protection in exchange for a profit of the drug money. He approaches Don Corleone about it but Don is morally against the use of drugs, and turns down the offer. This does not please the drug dealer, who has the Don shot down by some of his hit men. Don barely survives, which leads his son Michael to begin a violent mob war against Sollozzo the drug dealer and tears the Corleone family apart. The opening of this film starts with a closeup of a man talking. This makes the audience focus on what he is saying and portrays him as quite an important character. This continues for over a minute. The camera zooms out to a medium shot and we can gradually see where this man is. By 2.30 minutes we can see another person in the shot by not thier face as it is an over the shoulder shot.
Psycho
The film follows Marion Crane who works in a Real Estate office in Arazona. She is fed up with the way life has treated her and having to sneak off to meet her lover Sam in lunch breaks. They cant marry as Sam has to give most of his money away in alimony. One Friday Marion is trusted to bank $40,000 by her employer. Seeing the opportunity to take the money and start a new life, Marion leaves town and heads towards Sam's California store. Tired after the long drive and caught in a storm, she gets off the main highway and pulls into The Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man called Norman who seems to be obsesed with his mother. Events unfold as the tension builds.
Jaws
The peaceful beach resort of Amity island is being terrorised. There is something in the sea that is attacking swimmers and the community and the tourists can no longer enjoy the sea and the sun as they used to. The spreading fear is affecting the numbers of tourists that are normally attracted to this island although the beach is not allowed to close. This is putting peoples lives at risk as we feel the suspence when the great white draws closer to the shore. In order to put the attacks to a stop Sheriff Brody and his friends Hooper and Quint decide to go after the shark and kill it. The film opens with a medium shot of the city. As the camera pans across the city the music from the credits is still playing but fades. The camera focus' on a building and zooms in so the audience assume this building is important. It goes in through the window and we see a medium shot of a women and man talking so we know these are important characters in the film.
Pulp Fiction
Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are two thieves who, while dining at a coffee shop, decide that the best thing to do is to rob it. Vincent and Jules, two hit men working for Marcellus Wallace, are sent to fetch a very specs wife Mia a good time while he's away. Butch Coolidge is a boxer who's been approached by Marsellus and been told to throw his latest fight. When Butch ends up killing the other boxer, he must escape Marsellus but not before getting his dead father's lucky golden watch. The film internates with two ial and very mysterious briefcase for their boss. Vincent faces some problems when Wallace asks him to show hismall-time thieves, Honey Bunny and Pumpkin, and then shifts to the story of Jules and Vincent. The film opens with a midshot of a lady and a man sitting at a table talking. The waitress comes over and there is a closeup of her face as she asks them if they'd like any more coffee. When the lady and man are having a conversation the camera uses an over the shouder shot when the other person is talking. Most of the shots used are medium shots and there is a lot of dialogue used.
The Matrix
In the 1999, a man named Thomas Anderson (also known as Neo), lives an ordinary life. A software techie by day and a computer hacker by night, he sits alone at home by his monitor. One night, a mysterious woman named Trinity finds him and introduces him to that faceless character he has been waiting for: Morpheus. A messiah of sorts, Morpheus presents Neo with the truth about his world by shedding light on the dark secrets that have troubled him for so long. The first thing we see is a black screen with some digits and letters in a bright green font. We can hear a conversation between two people which is obviously meant to be private. The camera zooms in on the computerised screen and we are taken to the first scene. This starts with a close up of a man and then gradually pans around the room and follows the action that is going on. There is no dialogue used at first to create suspence and only music is used.
