Audience Questionnaire!

We produced a questionnare between us which contained 10 open and closed questions. We are going to hand these out to a group of students who are going to view our film. This is our questionnaire,

1. What was your first impression after watching the opening of 'The Pursuit'?
2. Did you feel a sense of enigma within our film opening?
Yes/No
3. Did you feel the sounds used, were appropriate for our film opening? Please explain your answer.
4. Did you think the characters were representative of people of this age in today’s world? Yes/No
5. Comment on the use of camera angles. Were they successful?
6. Did you think the film showed conventions of a thriller?
Yes/No
7. Did the editing such as the use of transitions make the film flow smoothly? Please explain your answer.
8. Did we manage to use lighting effectively? If answered no, why not?
Yes/No
9. In what ways could we improve our film opening?
10. Overall, do you think we created a successful thriller film opening?
Yes/No

We handed out 15 copies of this questionairre. Several people wrote that our film lacks continuity. It is too late to improve this in our film now but if we were producing a whole film and had the time like a real producer would have we could do it. All the feedback we recieved was positive except the few that mentioned about continuity. We watched back our film and could see this also. The shot at the end where the photo falls to the ground and then the camera focus' on it, is lacking continuity. This is because it does not flow like it is the same shot.

Editing

We edited quite a lot of our mateiral in the first week we started editing. This was because were slightly behind filming so we wanted to make sure we had it all finshed as soon as we could. We uploaded our footage onto a MAC, and we watched what we had. There was nearly 2 hours of footage to go through so we selected the best shots we had and started cutting sections out. We did most of our editing in 1-2 weeks, and have finally finished. We added some credits as this is typical for a film opening to have. The shots where the girl is walking along the street, we decided to crop. This was to focas more on character and street lights as we felt it was unecessary to include the whole shot. We added sound effects and backing music to our footage as it created the mood and added the suspence. These are the trasitions we used in our film.
shot transition - cross dissolve - o.24
shot transition - cross dissolve - 0.24
shot transition - fade to black - 1.09

Filming - Part Two

We filmed the rest of our media on Monday 25th January. The reason for the delay was due to the snow and time inconvenience. We set up our camera on the tripod outside and spent some time practising lighting. This was to see how it looked on camera. We did some shots each with a differnt angle of lighting so we could see which looked best and so we had plenty to edit. At the beginning we were all acting in the party scene.I was mainly in charge of the lighting but helping filming too. Sam was mainly filming and Neil and Jasmine were acting. Jasmine, Sam and I were also directing. We filmed Jasmine (main girl) walking out the house and walking towards the camera many times so we had plenty of material to edit. This was the first shot after the party scene. We filmed everything on Jasmines own camera which she transferred to a hardrive. We uploaded this onto a MAC at school which we can now begin to edit.We have good quality footage of just over an hour or so to edit. Our whole filming took us about 3 hours or so in total.

Preliminary Task Writeup

For our practise task i worked in a group of three with Jasmine Bual and Charly Luck. We produced a storyboard together so we had an outline of what we were going to film. Our story only had to be short but had to include appropriate angles and involve somebody entering a room and having a shory convosation with another person.
Our scene involved a girl come home late and her father getting angry and asking her where she had been. The scene ended on a cliffhanger which created suspence, as the camera zooms in on the lovebites on the girls neck and then her father and her own reaction. As we were filming, our shots did look quite ameteur as this was the first time we had filmed something. We took a number of shots of the door opening at the beginning of the scene but we did not film enough material all together. We realised this when we began editing as when we edited the best bits in our whole film only lasted around 20 seconds. This prepared us for our main task as we now knew how to work the camera and how much footage we need to make a decent film opening. We learnt that we should film much more than we need , so we can therefore edit and pick pick out the best shots and have lots to chose from.
