What was his first film and when was it released? What was obviously different about his first than films of today?

The firt actual "Hitchcock film”,because it is the first of his films to contain many of what would become his stylistic and thematic trademarks, was 'The Lodger'. This was released in 1927. This differed from his films of today because it was a silent film. He quoeted, “I took a pure narrative, and, for the first time, presented ideas in purely visual terms.”
The Lodger also introduced several other elements that would become trademarks of his style. These included suspense sequences that show something happening before showing who is doing it, the use or clue of a visual symbol, and a “double” figure. A double figure is two characters that do not have proper names. For example in this film, The Lodger and The Avenger, who may in fact turn out to be the same person. Also, he used blondes as the female roles which would later become typical to Hitchcock films.
